JupiterEd: Part III – Submitting assignments to JupiterEd

This is the third installment of my multi-part series on JupiterEd.  Last week I covered Part II:Juno Docs, and the week prior to that was Part I: Basics of JupiterEd. This week I want to show you how students can submit assignments from different apps to JupiterEd. While this tutorial is iPad specific, students can still use the basic concepts if submitting from a computer.

I would consider this to be an beginner to intermediate tutorial. This will be easier if you’ve already read my first two post of the series and have had time to poke around JupiterEd.

Let’s begin!

Submitting to JupiterEd

To submit from an app – be it Notability, iMovie, Explain Everything, etc. – you should either 1) save it directly to Dropbox or Google Drive, or 2) save it to your Camera Roll, followed by uploading it to Dropbox/Google Drive.  From those two apps you can submit it to JupiterEd.

NOTE: For all intents and purposes you could also email the assignment to dropbox@jupitered.com. This will put the file or link into the student’s File Locker. Since not all apps have that capability, I recommend using the methods below to create a consistent workflow for most apps.

SAVING YOUR FILE TO YOUR CAMERA ROLL

Most apps that involve creating multimedia allow you to save your work to your Camera Roll. While this may seem like an extra step, it actually simplifies the workflow since it works for so many different apps.

SAVING FROM EXPLAIN EVERYTHING TO CAMERA ROLL

  • From the main menu, click on the Share Button in the upper left-hand corner
  • Select your presentation
  • Select Movie to Camera Roll

SAVING FROM PIC COLLAGE TO CAMERA ROLL

  • Select your collage
  • Click on the Share Button. It will automatically save to your Camera Roll

SAVING FROM iMOVIE TO CAMERA ROLL

  • Click on Download
  • Save video to Camera Roll. Wait for movie to export.

Now that you have your file in the Camera Roll, you need to move it to either Dropbox or Google Drive

SAVING FROM CAMERA ROLL TO DROPBOX/GOOGLE DRIVE

  • Go to the Dropbox or Google Drive app (login if necessary)
  • FROM DROPBOX:
    • Click on the 3 dots at the top next to the word Dropbox
    • Select Add Files
    • Select Photos
    • Find your photo/video from your Camera Roll and select it. The movie will then upload (slowly)
  • FROM GOOGLE DRIVE:
    • Click on the red circle and + sign
    • Select Upload
    • Select Photos and Videos
    • Find your photo/video from your Camera Roll and select it. T he movie will then upload (slowly)

If you’re using Notability (my district loves this app so much that it paid for it!), you can save your Notes directly to Dropbox or Google Drive

SAVING FILE FROM NOTABILITY TO DROPBOX/GOOGLE DRIVE

  • Click on Share Button
  • Select Dropbox or Google Drive
  • Choose destination folder
  • Double-check that it’s in PDF format
  • Select “Send to Dropbox” or “Send to Google Drive”

Now that your file is in one of the cloud services, you need to submit it to JupiterEd.

FOUR WAYS TO SUBMIT TO JUPITERED:

1) DIRECTLY FROM JUPITERED

  • Go to File Locker
  • Select Upload/New
  • Select Dropbox or Google Drive
  • Find your file and select it. Now your file is in JupiterEd and you can submit it to the desired assignment.

2) USING THE PUBLIC LINK FROM THE DROPBOX APP

  • From the Dropbox app, select your file
  • On the upper right-hand corner, click on the Share Button
  • Select Copy Link. You will be notified that the link is saved to your clipboard.
  • Login to JupiterEd. Go to File locker
  • Select Upload/New
  • Select New Link
  • Hold finger down until the “paste” popup appears. Click on Paste
  • Click OK

 3) USING THE PUBLIC LINK FROM THE GOOGLE DRIVE APP

  • From the Google Drive app, find your file
  • Beside the file name, you’ll see a gray circle with a lowercase “i”.  Select that.
  • Select “Get link”.  Double-check that under “Who has access” that Link sharing is ON.
  • Login to JupiterEd. Go to File locker
  • Select Upload/New
  • Select New Link
  • Hold finger down until the “paste” popup appears. Click on Paste
  • Click OK

4) USING THE PUBLIC LINK FROM GOOGLE DOCS

If you completed your assignment in Google Docs, you can refer to my previous tutorial to copy the public link. There is no need to save it to Dropbox or Google Drive.

After copying the link:

  • Login to JupiterEd. Go to File locker
  • Select Upload/New
  • Select New Link
  • Hold finger down until the “paste” popup appears. Click on Paste
  • Click OK

If the link won’t paste:

  • Open a new tab in Safari (click on the + sign in the upper right corner)
  • Paste the link in the web address box at the top
  • Click on the address box again and hold your finger down until you see a popup menu. Click on Select All, then Copy
  • Go back to JupiterEd and paste the link

If you’re using Educreations, there are slightly different steps for submitting to JupiterEd.

SUBMITTING FROM EDUCREATIONS

  • Select your presentation
  • Click on the Share Button
  • Select Copy Link
  • Login to JupiterEd. Go to File locker
  • Select Upload/New
  • Select New Link
  • Hold finger down until the “paste” popup appears. Click on Paste
  • Click OK

If you’re using another iOS app and the methods above aren’t working, leave a comment below and I will do my best to help you find a solution.
